Wishes update 7 May 2023 A small group gathered to watch the final two stages of the installation - Fire and Air. Assisted by local children, Philip placed all the wishes in a tin, set fire to them and everyone watched the smoke rise into the air. Now we wait to see if any are granted.
Wishes Installation: April/May 2023 A collaborative art installation by Philip Barnett and friends.
Greek philosophy and other Western cultures teach that the Universe is made up of four elements: Earth, Water, Air and Fire.
This installation consists of 10 jam jars part-buried in the EARTH in my front garden, close to running WATER. Woodridings Stream, a tributary of the River Pinn, runs through the garden.
From the beginning of April 2023, neighbours and friends are invited to submit a wish, just one per person. This can be of a personal nature or concerning a wider group of people. Anything from a local group to the whole planet. Children are particularly welcome to participate.
Wishes should be anonymous and written or printed on a small piece of paper and must be unreadable. They can be written in invisible ink, using code or just completely redacted. It is important that no-one can read anyone else's wish. This is to ensure no judgement can be made on what is a good or bad wish.
Each wish will be placed in one of the jars and will stay there until Sunday May 7. On this day at 4.30pm all the jars will be opened and the wishes placed in a fire-proof container. They will be set on FIRE sending the wishes into the AIR. Will they come true? We can only hope so.
The wishes should be delivered during April to 13 Hillview Road together with a separate piece of paper containing a contact name and email address in case the project end date needs to change.
