Hillview Ode 2022
Oh, Hillview Road thou great example of humankind at its best Where despite all that the world can do to set father against mother - sister against brother one neighbour against the other You, oh Hillview, rise time and time again to show the way. To celebrate the Queen’s event A pleasant hour or so was spent with musical en-ter-tain-ment Which left ev-‘ry-one quite content Poems hanging on a tree, Some by you and some by me And when litter bags we see Good people vol-un-tar-ily Dress up warm and walk the street Leaving all our pavements neat ……….. and tidy And when threatened with lines of yellow Do we stay silent? No, we bellow And see them off, well most of them as you can see, Oh Hillview Road, and Close of course, kindness one cannot enforce Here it lies in a-bun-dance, and good deeds happen not by chance But by good folk and kind to boot Some who stay home and some commute Where neighbours chat whilst they're en-route And all together constitute This village, this community So on to twenty-twenty-three Philip Barnett © 2022 |
This ode was written to accompany our seasonal letter to all our neighbours.
