Best Before Today I looked into my fridge The main part, and the door To find something to eat that has not passed it’s ‘best before’
“Once opened use within 2 days” “Do not use after June” “Consume by 1986” “Or by the next full moon” == I looked into a cupboard and saw every sort of pill and lotions, potions, all of which should help me feel less ill
So medications and old age Leave me feeling tired The meds have fared much worse than me Many have expired == I looked into the mirror and Now this I can’t ignore I see a man I recognise Who’s passed his ‘best before’
No longer such a callow youth As grey hair indicates But happy still and having fun Who needs expiry dates?
